The Sunbelt Ag Expo offers vital support to farmers and their families, yet one topic often unaddressed is farmer mental health and well-being. This year, the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine of South Georgia (PCOM) partnered with wellness organizations to provide education and support for those attending the Expo.

PCOM brought simulation trucks and mannequins to demonstrate how they educate their students, offering expo-goers a glimpse into their training programs. The Georgia Agricultural Wellness Alliance, along with other organizations focused on farmer mental health, provided valuable resources for farm families who may be struggling in silence. Attendees could also access CPR training, veteran support, and information on the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, among other helpful services.

Farmer mental health is currently in a crisis. With rising suicide rates driven by economic stress, financial burdens, and unpredictable weather, many farmers are at their breaking points. Farmers are the backbone of America, and it’s more important than ever to offer them the support they need. Addressing their mental health is not only vital for their well-being but also for the future of agriculture in this country.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out for confidential support by calling 988. Help is available, and no one should face these challenges alone.
