With avian influenza in full swing, it is the perfect time to learn how to best protect your flock. The CDC reported that over 96 billion birds in the US poultry industry have been affected since 2022.
Come visit the poultry exhibit to find out how to bring your flock the ultimate protection with experts from the University of Georgia, like poultry scientist Dr. Claudia Dunkley.
“Helping small flock growers resolve issues in production is our favorite part of the expo,” Dunkley said.
Make sure to stop by the poultry building to get the best information to take home about one of Georgia’s top commodities. Each day of the expo, the poultry barn will have two seminars conducted at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Tuesday seminars:
Dr. Casey Ritz, UGA professor and assistant department head, will start off the seminars speaking about disease and biosecurity in poultry production at 11 a.m.
Dr. Brian Kieper, processing specialist, will be speaking about processing meat at 1 p.m.
Wednesday seminars:
Dr. Sean Chen, extension nutritionist, will speak about managing nutrition in small flocks at 11 a.m.
Dr. Claudia Dunkley will conduct a seminar on preparing eggs for sale at 1 p.m.
Thursday seminars:
Dr. Emily Pittman, Georgia Poultry Lab Network, will round off the seminars by conducting two over common diseases in small flocks and parasites, one at 11 a.m. and one at 1 p.m.
As one of Georgia’s number one commodities, the poultry industry provides students with numerous career opportunities.
“We want all of the students to come by and consider a career in poultry science,” Dunkley said.
You can find this team in the poultry barn as well as in the UGA building as this year’s showcase department.
